Some more random thoughts
And another song
I haven’t been watching the current season of SNL even though I set my PVR to record the new shows (which then get deleted automatically after 60 days). I lost interest with the direction the season was going somewhere around November, and while I’ve heard there were a few stronger shows in the post-Christmas half of the season so far, the summaries I’ve read don’t really pique my interest to actually sit down and watch. I did tune in for the 50th anniversary special, which wasn’t bad, but I feel like I’m too old for the current show; I just can’t connect to it.
I have to be careful about how much audiovisual stimulation I give myself; I will listen to music or podcasts at work to help the time go by, but I don’t really watch or listen to anything when I’m home unless I’m in the right frame of mind to do so. I still haven’t checked out a lot of the bigger new TV shows or movies of the last few years, and even when I do, I just move slowly; binge-watching doesn’t really appeal to me.
I wonder whether I should cancel a few of my streaming subscriptions, since I don’t really watch more than a few times a month (at most). I’ve always been more of a physical media person1.
The ongoing horror show south of the border continues, but I don’t really want to talk about it here all the time. I’ve been having trouble thinking about what else to write about, though, especially since I don’t really do too much outside of working, eating, and sleeping. Occasionally I’ll have the start of some idea while I’m on the bus, but it usually dissipates quickly.
I think I need to get into journaling more, particularly the kind not meant for public consumption. Maybe it would open something up in me that gets jammed up whenever I think about the audience for my posts. It sometimes reminds me of the freeze I would encounter whenever I had to write papers during my time at Mount Allison more than 20 years ago, when I would find myself unable to start or move forward for the longest time.

My birthday is next Wednesday, so if you want to get me something, I have separate wishlists for books, records, CDs, and DVDs/Blu-rays. Just a heads up, these are Amazon.ca links (I know, Amazon is gross).

Happy birthday for next week. 🎂
